The Athletics' Brent Rooker will undergo season-ending surgery on his left knee to address cartilage damage, according to team beat reporter Martin Gallegos.

Rooker, 31, is coming off three-straight stellar seasons in which he hit at least 30 home runs and 69 RBI. The veteran signed a six-year, $80 million contract extension back in January and has hit just .200 this year with 10 home runs and 29 RBI.

In his now four years with the A's, Rooker became a two-time All-Star and Silver Slugger Award winner. Heading into this season, the veteran averaged 33 home runs, 90 RBI, and a .267/.343/.510 slashline.

Rooker spent the first two seasons of his career with the Minnesota Twins (2020-2021) before having a brutal 2022 between playing for the Kansas City Royals and San Diego Padres.

He joined the Athletics in 2023 and has since taken off with his career. Unfortunately, the 40-46, who are miraculously still in an American League West divisional race halfway through the season, will be without one of their better hitters.
