When Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks won the NBA title in 2021, following two MVP awards for their Greek franchise player, it looked as though a new clear-cut powerhouse had emerged. One built to last. Individually, there is no question: the 'Greek Freak' remains one of the league's biggest stars. Season after season, he continues to tear defences apart.

Collectively, however, it has been a disaster. It has been four years since the two-time MVP won a playoff series. Injuries, both his own and those suffered by his teammates, constant upheaval behind the scenes in Wisconsin and, above all, endless trade rumours have finally reached a conclusion this summer: Giannis is taking his talents to South Beach.
But to do what? Having a player of his calibre on the roster immediately makes the Miami Heat outsiders in the title race. But it guarantees nothing. There are plenty of unanswered questions, mainly about the construction of the roster and, above all, the partnership with Bam Adebayo, which could be either lethal or a total flop. He must put all those doubts to rest.

At 31, Giannis no longer has time to waste. It is true that he does not face the pressure some players feel to finish their careers with a championship ring: he already has one in his pocket. But for a player who has been so dominant, one ring feels like too little. After a disappointing final season, this fresh start must return the 'Greek Freak' to where he belongs: at the top. Easier said than done...
