Inter Turku are the new leaders in the Veikkausliiga after a comfortable victory over Jaro at home, while Gnistan continue to recover from their poor start, taking a point on the road at VPS.

Inter Turku 2-0 Jaro

With most of the other sides at the upper end of the table faltering on Friday evening, Inter Turku knew a win would take them top of the pile, and they managed to wrap up all three points inside half an hour.

Clinton Jephta put the hosts ahead 15 minutes in, cutting in from the left before working an excellent one-two with Johannes Yli-Kokko before burying his finish.

Jephta and Yli-Kokko then played a hand in FC Inter's second just 12 minutes later - Yli-Kokko's ball across goal was helped on by Albin Granlund to Jephta, who was unable to turn the ball home under pressure from the goalkeeper, but Loic Essomba was on hand to bundle it in.

Things could have been different had Rudi Vikstrom not been wasteful with good chances for Jaro, who left Turku still looking for a win this season, as their run of four draws in a row came to an end. Inter move onto 14 points, two clear of AC Oulu, TPS and KuPS.

VPS 1-1 Gnistan

After three consecutive defeats to open the campaign, it's now three matches unbeaten for Gnistan, who came from behind to draw with VPS, ending the Vaasa side's two-game winning run.

The run that had already seen off Ilves and Mariehamn looked set to continue just seven minutes in when Luka Smyth was fouled by visiting goalkeeper Alexandro Craninx. Smyth stepped up and sent Craninx the wrong way from the penalty spot.

But the hosts were unable to hold on, and soon after the hour mark, Danny Perez went on a surging run down the left side before pulling the ball across for Adeleke Akinyemi to apply the finish and ensure a share of the spoils. The point lifts Gnistan up to 10th, while VPS remain in sixth place.
