The statistic that is hurting Kaizer Chiefs this season

Kaizer Chiefs have struggled to score first-half goals this season, with only four in their 10 games across all competitions to date.

By contrast, they have scored nine times in the second half, more than double their first-half tally. While it is normal for teams to score more goals after the break, Amakhosi will be looking to be more effective in the opening period.

If we isolate the Betway Premiership, the statistic remains the same – four of their 13 goals have come in the first half. That is 31%.

The league average across all teams is closer to 40%, so they are a little behind the curve.

Three of their four first-half goals have come away from home, with Flávio Silva netting against Kruger United, Lebohang Maboe slotting a penalty against Richards Bay and Maboe scoring again against Polokwane City.

Their other first-half goal was scored by Mfundo Vilakazi against Siwelele.

The Betway Premiership is never short of drama as Orlando Pirates ended Mamelodi Sundowns' eight-year reign as champions last season. Kaizer Chiefs are hoping to become genuine title contenders again this year. Keep up to date with the latest news, analysis, incredible statistics and more.

All four goals came within the opening 30 minutes, meaning Chiefs have yet to score in the final 15 minutes of the first half this season.

Lamontville Golden Arrows are the only Betway Premiership club not to have scored a first-half goal this season, although they have managed only three goals in eight games all campaign.

They are the league’s lowest scorers.

The good news for Chiefs is that only Mamelodi Sundowns (23) and Orlando Pirates (19) have scored more than their 13 league goals this season. But if they can improve their first-half scoring output, they might turn more of those frustrating draws into wins.

Perhaps not surprisingly, Sundowns have the most first half goals in the league this season with eight, followed by AmaZulu (7) and Pirates (6).
