The Danish FA confirm on their website that Kent Nielsen has been named the new assistant coach of the Danish men's national team.
Kent Nielsen, who was part of the Danish squad that won the European championships in 1992, has signed a two-year contract.
National team coach Brian Riemer praises the appointment:
"Kent Nielsen is a great asset who fits perfectly into the team I wanted to assemble with different skills. With Morten Wieghorst's departure, I wanted an assistant coach with a lot of experience, and Kent Nielsen also shares the same offensive approach to the game as me, which is why I have chosen him as the new assistant coach for my team ahead of many strong candidates."
"Kent Nielsen is also a legend in the Danish national team and knows what it means to wear the red shirt and represent the entire Danish population. It is a very strong addition to the team,' says Riemer.
64-year-old Kent Nielsen has been in charge of more than 600 Superliga matches with Horsens, AaB, Brondby, OB, and most recently Silkeborg.
Kent Nielsen takes up his new job during the summer holidays.
Thus, his first task will be Denmark's international match in September, when the opponent is Norway away in the Nations League.
