Texas backup quarterback Arch Manning declared on Monday that he has ‘no plans’ to go anywhere else after this season, despite the rumours.

It’s worth noting that the portal had already closed on December 28th but any players on teams that are involved in bowl games have an extended window period of five days after their season officially ends.

“I really have no plans on entering the portal or anything so I don’t really know anything about it, about the whole windows and everything,” stated Manning ahead of the team’s College Football Playoffs quarterfinal game against Arizona State.

Texas starting quarterback Quinn Ewers, who many expect to declare for the draft, hasn’t gone public with his plans after the season. However, Ewers could elect to return to Texas or transfer as well.

Manning was the top-ranked recruit of the 2023 class and started two games this season for Texas after Ewers missed time with an abdominal injury. In those two games, Manning came out with a 2-0 record, throwing for 583 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions on 41 of 60 passing.

On the season, Manning completed 61 of 90 passes for 939 yards, nine touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Ewers, if he elects to enter the NFL Draft, is a projected first-round, early second-round pick. With many teams desperate for a new franchise quarterback for various circumstances, the chances might be better than ever for Ewers.

Texas and Arizona State are set to play each other in the CFP quarterfinals at the Peach Bowl in Atlanta, Georgia on January 1, 2025.
