Engstrand now marks the third coach from the Detroit Lions that the Jets have brought on board, following Aaron Glenn, who was hired as the head coach, and Steve Heiden as the offensive line coach.
Engstrand was the Lions' passing game coordinator and led quarterback Jared Goff to the best season of his career, who is now one of five MVP candidates. He finished the regular season with 4,629 passing yards, 37 passing touchdowns (career-high), and a 72.4 completion percentage (career-high).
The Lions were ranked first in scoring and second in both total offence and passing offence this past season with Engstrand and offensive coordinator Ben Johnson - now the head coach of the Chicago Bears.
This will mark Engstrand's first offensive coordinator job of his NFL coaching career. He previously held the position from 2011 to 2017 at the University of San Diego.
