The Baltimore Orioles relieved manager Brandon Hyde (51) of his duties prior to Saturday's 10-6 loss to the Washington Nationals.

The team also fired fielding coordinator and catching instructor Tim Cossins. Third base coach Tom Mansolino will act as the interim manager for the time being.

Mansolino said in the post-game interview on Saturday, "This isn't good for any of us. We're going to miss Brandon in a lot of ways."

Both team owner David Rubenstein and General Manager Mike Elias released statements on the move.

The Baltimore Orioles, who were favourites to represent the American League in the World Series following major injuries to the starting rotation of the New York Yankees, were a disgusting 15-28 under Hyde this season before their 10-6 loss on Saturday.

At 15-29, the O's have the second-worst record in the AL behind the Chicago White Sox (14-32) and fourth-worst in the entire league.

Before Saturday's 10-6 loss, the Orioles' pitching (both bullpen and starters) had the third-worst earned run average (5.33), fourth-fewest strikeouts (323), and had given up the fifth-most hits (399).

As for their hitting under Hyde this year, the Orioles were ranked 25th in batting average (.230), 27th in walks (124), 25th in runs (159), 25th in stolen bases (24), tied 27th in doubles (57), third in strikeout percentage (24.3%), and tied 26th in on-base percentage (.299).

The team, now entering the back-end of May, has only won two series all year and is on the brink of being swept in back-to-back series.

Hyde's History

During Hyde's tenure, the O's went 421-492 in the regular season (three winning seasons, four losing seasons) and 0-5 in the playoffs.

He did end up winning AL Manager of the Year in 2023 after the team won 101 games, but was also the manager in 2021 when they lost 110 games.

After what should've been a team past a rebuild and now title contenders, the Orioles are back to where they were four years ago.
