However, despite Eovaldi being snubbed from being selected, the Rangers still paid him the $100k bonus anyway as an act of class and respect for the long-time veteran.
For those who are unaware, Eovaldi was a free agent before this season began. Despite receiving higher offers from other organizations, he ultimately signed with the Rangers anyway - the team he recently won a World Series with in 2023 - for three years, $75 million.
Eovaldi definitely made a great case to be selected to the A.L. All-Star team this season - posting what would be a league-best 1.58 earned run average among starting pitchers.
However, Eovaldi falls just six innings short of the 97 needed at the current moment to be considered a "qualified starter" to rank among pitching statistics after missing the first month of the season with a triceps injury. Eovaldi has also struck out 94 batters in 91 innings, giving up just 63 hits and 14 walks.
Teammate and starting pitcher Jacob DeGrom was also paid $100k by the Rangers for his All-Star selection.
The two pitchers have a combined 16-5 record and 1.95 ERA, making the duo arguably the best one-two punch in all of baseball this season.
