Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is set to exercise his $52.6 million player option with the Los Angeles Lakers for the 2025/26 season, according to reliable ESPN insider Shams Charania.

LeBron's long-time agent, Rich Paul, says the four-time NBA champion will be closely following the franchise's moves this summer as he eyes another title.

LeBron wants to compete for a championship,” Paul told ESPN. “He knows the Lakers are building for the future. He understands that, but he values a realistic chance of winning it all.

We understand the difficulty in winning now while preparing for the future. We do want to evaluate what’s best for LeBron at this stage in his life and career. He wants to make every season he has left count, and the Lakers understand that, are supportive and want what’s best for him.”

LeBron is entering a record-extending 23rd season in the NBA, breaking a tie with Vince Carter. However, it remains unclear whether he will compete beyond 2026.
