Saint Francis moving from D1 to D3
A little over a week after its loss to Alabama State, failing to reach the NCAA tournament Round of 64, Saint Francis announced that all of its athletic programs will be heading from Division 1 to Division 3 starting in 2026.
Despite being picked to finish last in the Northeast Conference poll, the Saint Francis men's basketball team placed first and eventually won their conference championship.
Even though the team didn't make the Round of 64, they technically made the NCAA tournament (as a play-in team) for the first time since 1991.
UNLV new coach - Josh Pastner
UNLV (University of Nevada Las Vegas) announced they hired Josh Pastner as their new head coach.
Pastner coached at Georgia Tech the past seven seasons, where he led them to the ACC Championship and NCAA tournament in 2021.
When talking about UNLV, the former ACC Coach of the Year said, "This has always been a dream job for me, and I fully recognize the significance of UNLV in the landscape of college basketball. The program holds great importance for both the Las Vegas community and the region, and I am eager to unite Rebel Nation with the goal of restoring the program to national prominence."
NC State new coach - Will Wade
Will Wade made his first statement on Thursday as the new head coach of North Carolina State.
"I'd be lying if I told you I thought three years ago that I knew an opportunity like this would come again," said Wade. "I did not, I did not. I'm thankful."
The statement comes after Wade announced he accepted the job before the NCAA tournament, where he led a McNeese State squad to the Round of 32 in what some thought would be this year's cinderella team.
Texas new coach - Sean Miller
From foe to friend, now former Xavier University head coach Sean Miller has become the new head coach for Texas.
The move comes not too long after Miller led his Xavier squad to a win over Texas during the NCAA tournament play-in game.
His Xavier squad eventually lost in the Round of 64 and now he has his eyes set on the next chapter.
"I don't think I've ever been more excited in my life," said Miller.
Xavier new coach - Richard Pitino
In an orderly fashion, just as one coach leaves, another enters.
After losing Sean Miller to Texas, Xavier hired New Mexico head coach Richard Pitino.
Pitino led New Mexico to a Round of 32 appearance in this year's NCAA tournament following a Mountain West Conference-best 27-8 overall record.
Iowa's new coach and possible transfer
With their possible cinderella run in the NCAA tournament coming to an abrupt end, Drake head coach Ben McCollum is heading to Iowa as their new man in charge.
Standout guard Bennett Stirtz will be following his head coach to the big-time BIG 10 program in the hopes of revitalizing the program.
Stirtz had a breakout year, averaging 19.2 points and 5.7 assists per game (top 50 in both), becoming an NBA Draft afterthought to a potential first-round pick. However, he's going to continue his impressive run with another year in college.
New Mexico's Donovan Dent enters portal
New Mexico's star guard, Donovan Dent, has officially entered the transfer portal.
Dent averaged 20.4 points and 6.4 assists in 35 games this season and put up 40.9 three-point percentage.
The current Mountain West Player of the Year has a career total 493 assists, the seventh most in program history. His 224 this season is the second most in a single season for a New Mexico player.
However, he is open to returning to New Mexico as well.
UNC's Elliot Cadeau enters portal
Following the Tar Heel's tournament loss to Ole Miss, Cadeau officially entered the transfer portal.
The Sophomore guard averaged 9.4 points, 6.2 assists and 1.1 steals this past season for UNC.
Teammate Jalen Washington also joined Cadeau as the only two Tar Heels to enter the portal.
