The Vancouver Canucks traded star defenceman Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild on Friday in exchange for centre Marco Rossi, left wing Liam Ohgren, defenceman Zeev Buium, and their first-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.

Trade talks were heating up around the Canucks dealing Hughes in the past couple of weeks. Now, he's heading to a Wild team who are sitting in third in the Central Division with a 17-9-5 record.

The 26-year-old is currently in the fifth year of his 6-year, $47.1 million deal he originally signed with the Canucks.

Hughes has two goals and 21 assists through 26 games this season for the Canucks. The former 2023-2024 Norris Trophy Winner has recorded at least 60 assists in the past four seasons and is now coming off back-to-back years with double-digit goals for the first time in his career.

He is Vancouver's all-time leader among defencemen in points 432, assists 371, powerplay points 190, and multi-point games 110.

The 24-year-old Rossi has spent all five years of his NHL career with the Wild, putting up four goals and nine assists this season through 17 games. Rossi is coming off back-to-back seasons putting up at least 21 goals.

He set a career high last season in both goals (24) and assists (36).

The 21-year-old Ohgren has yet to record an assist or a goal in 18 games this season after being called up from the AHL. As for Buium, the 20-year-old rookie defenceman has three goals and 11 assists through 31 games this season.
