Bojana Popovic, who recently signed a contract as the new assistant coach for Helle Thomsen in the Danish national team, has been sacked by Montenegrin outfit ŽRK Budućnost after spending five years with the club.

The former Europa League champions write on the website that the two parties have mutually agreed to end the cooperation.

Zoran Abramović, has been appointed as the new head coach. He will make his debut on the bench already this Saturday, when OTP Group Budućnost hosts the European champion Győr in the 3rd round of the EHF Champions League.

ŽRK Budućnost says further that "as a player, first assistant in the professional staff, sports director, and coach, Popovic made an immeasurable contribution to the work and results of our club."

"With a professional approach and exceptional knowledge, she helped Budućnost to keep its place in the EHF Champions League and be competitive in the elite ranks of European handball, and she made a key contribution to the development of numerous players who became the backbone of the Montenegrin national team."

Bojana Popović was hired as the assistant coach for the Denmark women's national handball team in August 2025, joining head coach Helle Thomsen to prepare for the 2025 IHF Women's World Championship.
