In a small four-game slate on Friday, the NHL still managed to make some headlines, starting with the Colorado Avalanche securing a five-goal shutout victory over the St. Louis Blues to break their four-game losing steak while Roope Hintz (28) and Jason Robertson (25) scored two each in the Dallas Stars win against Vancouver.

The Avalanche managed four straight goals in the first period to get out to a commanding lead over the Blues. Jonathan Drouin (6) scored two of those goals in the first period alongside Martin Necas (17), who the Avs just acquired in a trade, and Cale Makar (19).

Joel Kiviranta (11) scored the final goal of the shutout to break a rough period of games for the Avs. The shutout marked goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood's second of the season and 11th of his career.

Colorado improves to 30-21-2 while the Blues lose their fourth straight, dropping to 23-25-4. The two teams will meet face off again on February 23rd.

Stars 5-3 Canucks

Stars were shining in Dallas on Friday night thanks to Jason Robertson (19) and Roope Hintz (22) both scoring a pair of goals after teammate Oskar Back (3) got things started in the first period with one of his own.

What's even more impressive is that the Stars managed to score five goals on just 16 shots while the Canucks put up 29. Conor Garland (14), Jake DeBrusk (18), and Carson Soucy (2) scored the Canucks, who had their three-game win streak snapped.

Vancouver fall to 23-18-10 while Dallas improve to 33-17-1. The two teams won't meet again until March 9th.

Sabres 4-3 Predators

The Sabres have now won back-to-back games and three of their last five thanks to Jiri Kulich (11) putting up two goals, one in the first period and the other in the third. After getting out to a two-goal lead, the Preds scored three straight to take the lead.

But the Sabres rebounded with a goal from Jason Zucker (17) then Kulich. Justus Annunen is having a tough time in net for the Predators this season. He has yet to record a shutout and post a 12-9 record giving up an average of 3.01 goals per game.

Despite improving to 20-26-5, Buffalo still holds the worst record in the Eastern Conference while the Preds hold the third worst in the Western Conference.

Blue Jackets 3-2 Utah

After getting out to a 2-0 lead courtesy of goals from Nick Schmaltz (11) and Alexander Kerfoot (7), the Kraken still fell after giving up three unanswered to the Blue Jackets

Kirill Marchenko (21) then Kent Johnson (15) sent the game to overtime 2-2 before Zach Werenski (17) scored the game-winner just 61 seconds into OT.

Utah has now lost four straight and has the second-most overtime losses in the Western Conference.
