Second met third on Thursday night in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) for a match where the pendulum swung between Rogle and Vaxjo, before home side Rogle sealed a 5-3 win in the third period. Frolunda still lead the standings after sweeping past Malmo.

One point separated Rogle and Vaxjo in the table ahead of their meeting in Angelholm, with Rogle holding the narrow advantage thanks to four wins in a row, while Vaxjo had seen their winning run end at the weekend against Skelleftea.

The form book looked to be telling the same story when Simon Zether putting the hosts in front in the final five minutes of the first period, after Ludvig Nilsson had seen his strike for the visitors disallowed.

In the eighth minute of the second period, Isac Solberg doubled Rogle's lead, only for Joel Persson to pull one back on a powerplay and Brian Cooper to level things up for the Lakers in the 40th minute.

Yet the visitors could not complete the turnaround and instead the momentum shifted back to the home side, who retook the lead and extended it in just over a minute courtesy of Fredrik Olofsson and Albin Sundsvik

The three points were sealed with just over three minutes to play when Lubos Horky added Rogle's fifth, although Dennis Rasmussen added a consolation for Vaxjo with a minute to play to complete the 5-3 win.

The gap between the top two and the rest in the SHL is now four points, as Rogle stayed in second place, a point behind leaders Frolunda, who cruised to a 6-1 win away at Malmo.

Defeat to Leksand in their previous SHL outing plus Champions Hockey League action on Tuesday did nothing to stop the Gothenburg side putting in a strong performance on the road, although that didn't look likely when Carl Persson put the Redhawks ahead in the second period.

But from then on it was all Frolunda - Henrik Tommernes and Theodor Niederbach turned things around before the 40-minute mark, then both players, plus Jacob Peterson and Erik Thorell, added further goals in the final period.

It's eight wins from 10 now for Frolunda, while back-to-back losses has seen Malmo drop to seventh.

Also on Thursday, there waa only one goal at Brynas but it was enough for Skelleftea to move into fourth place and see the Gavle side slip to 12th thanks to Lulea's 3-2 win after a penalty shootout against HV71.

Skelleftea have overtaken Timra in the standings as they suffered an upset against Orebro, whose 5-3 win was not enough to haul them out of the bottom two.

What was more surprising about Leksand's win over the leaders was that it's now their only win in five matches following tonight's 3-1 home loss to Linkoping. The pair stay ninth and 10th, respectively.
