The Vancouver Canucks scored a season-high eight goals in their big win over the NHL's best Colorado Avalanche during Wednesday's action.

Canucks 8-6 Avalanche

Things got off to a quick start for the Canucks when Max Sasson scored his 12th goal of the season just 29 seconds into the game. Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnon would tie things up 52 seconds later as he became the first player in the entire league to score 50 goals this season.

Brock Boeser scored his seventh-career hat trick during the Canucks' biggest win of the season, which was almost soiled. Vancouver took a 6-2 lead, but the Avs rallied with four straight goals to tie it up with six minutes left in the game.

After Sam Malinski (7) tied the game up 6-6 for the Avs, Vancouver's Marcus Pettersson (2) scored 23 seconds later to retake the lead before Boeser would send home his third of the night with an empty netter, officially putting the game out of reach with 1:29 to go.

Colorado still sits atop the league with a 49-15-10 record. Vancouver still sits at the bottom of the league with a 22-44-8 record as the only team yet to reach 25 wins.

Kings 2-1 Blues

Trevor Moore (11) played savior for the Kings when he ripped a snapshot to win it in overtime as the Kings maintained their second spot in the Western Conference Wild Card race with eight games left to go on their schedule.

They have the fewest goals (197) among teams in the Western Conference Wild Card race and are 4-3-3 in their last 10 games. They take on the Nashville Predators (34-31-9) on Thursday, who sit just one point behind the Kings (78) in the standings, at 30-26-18.

Meanwhile, St. Louis fell to 31-31-12.

Sharks 4-3 Ducks

Macklin Celebrine scored two goals and recorded two assists in a crucial win for the Sharks as they sit one point behind the Kings, just as the Predators do, in the Western Conference Wild Card race.

Celebrine's second assist came on the game-winning goal from Alexander Wennberg (17), who snapped one for the team's fourth and final goal of the game with just 31 seconds remaining.

Anaheim remain atop the Pacific Division with a 41-29-5 record, while the Sharks have now won three straight as they sit at 35-31-7.
