Kane scored the first goal of the game for No. 499 during a power play to put the Wings up 1-0 before the end of the first period.
Axel Sandin-Pellikka (5) and J.T. Compher (5) would score for Detroit to go up 3-1 before Kane would send home No. 500 in an empty net during the third period.
Lucas Raymond (13) would score the final goal.
Detroit improved to 26-15-4, having now won seven of their last 10. The Canucks dropped to 16-22-5.
Maple Leafs 2-1 Flyers
Travis Konecny (14) put the Flyers up 1-0 heading into the third period. But Toronto's Scott Laughton (5) would score a clutch, unassisted, short-handed goal that ended up sending the game into overtime.
Easton Cowan (6) would hammer down the final nail in the coffin for the Leafs as they improved to 21-15-7.
Philly dropped to 22-12-8.
Canadiens 6-2 Panthers
Alexandre Texier (7) scored his first career hat trick to lift the Habs to their third-straight win.
Montreal managed to find the net four more times than Florida despite being outshot 27-19.
Noah Dobson (8), Oliver Kapanen (15), and Juraj Slafkovský (16) scored the team's other three goals as Montreal improved to 25-13-6.
Florida fell to 22-18-3, having now lost three of their four games to start 2026.
Bruins 4-1 Flames
Four straight goals from four different players helped lift the Bruins to the win as they improved to 23-19-2.
Tanner Jeannot (two assists) and Sean Kuraly (one goal, one assist) both finished with two points for the Bruins.
Calgary dropped to 18-22-4 and have now lost four straight (every game to start the new year).
Hurricanes 5-2 Ducks
After going down 2-1, the Canes rallied back with four straight goals as they have now won three straight games, improving to an Eastern Conference-best 27-14-3.
Carolina's Jalen Chatfield scored the go-ahead goal that put them up 3-2, in which would also be his first goal of the season.
Anaheim, who fell to 21-20-3 after losing their fourth-straight, finished the game with only 13 shots on goal. Carolina finished with 35.
Penguins 4-1 Devils
Penguins star Evgeni Malkin (9) scored in his return to the ice after missing a month with an upper-body injury.
Sidney Crosby and Rickard Rakell both finished the game with two assists, while teammate Connor Dewar would also finish with two points with a goal and an assist.
Pittsburgh improved to 21-12-9 as they extended their winning streak to five games.
New Jersey are trending in the other direction, having lost three straight, as they dropped to 22-20-2.
Sabres 5-2 Rangers
The Sabres continue to stay the hottest team in hockey as they recorded their 12th win in the past 13 games.
Josh Doan (14) has now scored in four straight games, Alex Tuch (14) in back-to-back, and Jason Zucker (10) four times in the last six games for the Sabres.
Buffalo improved to 23-15-4 despite being outshot 32-21.
The Rangers' Mika Zibanejad (16) stays hot himself as he now has four goals in the past three games, while Artemi Panarin has recorded eight assists in the last five games.
Oilers 4-3 Jets
Connor McDavid scored his 29th goal of the season, and his fifth in the last three games, as the Oilers improved to 22-16-6.
Teammate Leon Draisaitl picked up his 40th assist of the season on McDavid's goal that cut the Jets' lead to 3-2.
Edmonton continued to rally with goals from Zach Hyman (13) and Evan Bouchard (9), the latter of which was assisted by McDavid, his 48th of the season, to take the eventual 4-3 lead for the win.
Winnipeg fell to 15-22-5, having now lost 11 straight games.
Predators 2-1 Islanders
Simon Holmstrom (10) put the Isles up 1-0 in the second, but Nashville's Ryan O'Reilly (13) scored a short-handed goal with under a minute left in the period.
After a scoreless third and overtime, Juuse Saros would save all three shootout attempts from the Islanders, leaving Filip Forsberg to score the game winner as the Preds win their seventh game in the last 10.
They improved to 20-19-4 on the season, while the Isles fell to 24-15-5.
Avalanche 8-2 Senators
Colorado would catch heat during their big win over the Senators when they scored six goals in the second period.
Brock Nelson (21) would lead the way with two goals and an assist, while star teammate Nathan MacKinnon led all skaters with four points, putting up a goal and three assists.
Ross Colton would also have three assists for the Avs, who saw six different players put up at least one point.
Ottawa fell to 20-18-5, while the Avs remain on top of the NHL at 32-4-7.
