Feyenoord have been dealt a hard blow with key starters Santiago Gimenez (23) and Justin Bijlow (27) have sustained injuries during Wednesday’s Champions League game against Lille.

Lille emphatically beat Feyenoord 6-1 in their final game of the Champions League’s league phase, partially thanks to two own goals from the eleven from Rotterdam.

Danish manager Brian Priske has been under fire for disappointing recent results but strengthened his position with last week’s 3-0 Champions League win over Bayern Munich.

But with a difficult two-game stretch coming up – Feyenoord will play Ajax in Amsterdam this Sunday before visiting league leaders and reigning champions PSV in the quarter-final of the KNVB Cup – the Rotterdam side has been hit with the injury bug yet again.

Top goalscorer Santiago Gimenez and goalkeeper Justin Bijlow both suffered injuries in the first half against Lille and had to come off immediately, leaving Priske worried about their availability for this weekend’s ‘Klassieker’.

23-year-old Gimenez has been heavily linked with a move to Italian giants AC Milan in recent weeks after rejecting a move to Premier League standouts Nottingham Forest in the last summer transfer window.

The career of Feyenoord academy product Justin Bijlow has been plagued with injuries but got the opportunity to move to England as well last summer, but a knee injury meant Bijlow didn’t pass a medical ahead of a move to Southampton.

The severity of their injuries has not yet been determined.
