Burnley are top of the Championship after a narrow 2-1 win over Coventry, with promotion rivals Sheffield United and Leeds both dropping points against relegation-threatened sides.

In the play-off picture, Middlesbrough and Bristol City capitalised on clubs around them failing to win, moving into the top six in the process.

Down at the bottom of the league, Plymouth propelled themselves back into the fight for survival with a 2-1 win against Norwich, while Hull and Oxford also picked up crucial victories.

Flashscore look at all the major talking points in our latest Championship roundup.

Promotion race blown wide open

For the first time since December 2024, Leeds have dropped out of the automatic promotion places following a shock 1-1 draw away to 23rd-placed Luton.

The result follows a run of two consecutive draws and means Daniel Farke's side have won just once in their last six games, hitting a rough patch of form at a terrible time in the season.

All is not lost for Leeds with six games remaining, but supporters will undoubtedly be scarred from past failures in the second tier, especially blowing a golden opportunity at automatic promotion just a year ago - it certainly looks like history could be repeating itself this time around.

The dropped points were made worse by Burnley defeating high-flying Coventry 2-1 in a result that sent the Clarets above Leeds in the table.

Scott Parker's side came from behind, thanks to two goals from Jaidon Anthony to propel them to the top of the league - extending their unbeaten run to 27 Championship games in the process.

In a promotion race that has already taken several twists and turns, the drama didn't stop there as Sheffield United slumped to a 1-0 defeat away at Oxford.

Siriki Dembele netted the only goal of the game in that one to condemn the Blades to their first loss since February, with Chris Wilder's team missing out on the chance to return to the top of the league.

There are 18 more points up for grabs between now and the end of the season, and, in truth, it seems likely there will be a couple more shocks to come.

Burnley and Sheffield United still have to play each other, which means Leeds still technically have automatic promotion in their own hands - one of the two teams above is guaranteed to drop points.

The remit for the current top three is simple: win six games for a spot in the Premier League next season.

The question is, who can hold their nerve over the final month of the campaign?

Bristol City stake claim for playoff spot

Bristol City have long been one of the Championship's mid-table clubs, and by this point of the season, they usually have very little to play for.

Things have changed, though, and the Robins are finally mounting a serious playoff push after hitting a strong run of form at the perfect time.

Their latest 2-1 win against fellow top-six challengers Watford pushed them into the playoff positions and highlights a positive mentality from Liam Manning's side, with the team bouncing back from a disappointing defeat to Burnley the week prior.

Bristol City are now on a run of just one loss in their last 10 games (5W, 3D, 1L) and are building serious momentum.

They will hope for that momentum to carry them to a playoff finish and even possibly beyond that to the Premier League - in a season with three or four teams so clearly ahead of the rest, it's easy to forget that those chasing still have a realistic chance once the playoffs roll around.

Results elsewhere helped the Robins too, with Coventry and West Brom both losing, while Middlesbrough picked up a 2-0 win over Blackburn to move into fifth in the table.

Both Boro and Bristol City have hit the aforementioned wave of momentum at the perfect time and now have a top-six finish in their own hands.

Plymouth aiming for a great escape

Plymouth Argyle looked dead and buried under Wayne Rooney, but have undergone a major revival since the arrival of Miron Muslic.

The league's bottom-placed club have been touted for relegation since the season began, but with six games remaining, they sit just four points from safety.

Even the most optimistic of fans will admit that it still seems an impossible task given that Argyle are yet to face Sheffield United, Leeds, Middlesbrough and Coventry, although stranger things have happened in football.

Their latest win - a 2-1 triumph against Norwich - will bring renewed hope that Championship football is not completely off the cards for next season.

The only issue, however, is that those around them also seem to be picking up form.

Luton secured a remarkable 1-1 draw against Leeds and are now unbeaten in their last four fixtures (W2, D2), while Cardiff, Derby, Stoke and Hull are all on solid runs themselves.

The fight for survival looks like it will go right down to the final day - much like the promotion battle and race for a playoff spot - marking what will likely be one of the most exciting finishes to a Championship season in recent memory.

Conway nets outrageous goal

Middlesbrough striker Tommy Conway got on the scoresheet in their 2-0 win over Blackburn with a fantastic goal.

The forward showed incredible skill and composure to flick the ball around his opponent before spinning away in the other direction and racing into the box to fire an excellent strike into the top corner - winning our Goal of the Week.

Anthony shines for Burnley

We touched on Jaidon Anthony earlier with the winger scoring twice in Burnley's 2-1 win over Coventry - earning an 8.9 Flashscore player rating in the process.
