Hareide is currently in Milan, where Norway are due to face Italy in a decisive World Cup qualifier tomorrow. He was supposed to be present as an expert for the television station NRK in connection with the match, but he is not well enough.
Norwegian international team coach Stale Solbakken has just sent a touching greeting to Hareide at a Norwegian press conference in Italy.
"I send my regards to Åge Hareide, who is fighting a battle. He is one of the greatest players. Great coaching career. Victories in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. As one of the few Norwegians, he has World Cup experience as a coach. And he knows what it's all about", said Solbakken at the press conference.
In his playing career, he played for Hodd and Molde in Norway as well as Manchester City and Norwich City in England. Hareide was capped 50 times playing for Norway.
Hareide has also had a distinguished career as a coach. His biggest achievements were qualifying Malmo FF for the Champions League on several occasions and taking Denmark to the round of the last 16 at the 2018 World Cup. Last year, he stepped down as coach of the Icelandic national team.
