With a 4-0 win over Caen at Le Moustoir, FC Lorient have confirmed their return to Ligue 1 a year after leaving it. At the same time, Metz lost 2-1 at Pau.

While Le Havre's 1-1 draw with Monaco has already condemned Montpellier to Ligue 2, Ligue 1 already knows the name of a promoted side for the 2025-2026 season.

The name is Lorient. Leading the league at the start of Matchday 32, the Merlus could confirm their return to the top flight if they beat Caen and Metz lost at Pau.

At Le Moustoir, against Caen, who have already been relegated to the National, Lorient won comfortably, 4-0. Meanwhile, at the Nouste Camp in Pau, FC Metz needed at least a point to hold off the Bretons.

The Grenats lost 2-1 and, with 61 points, are now seven points behind Lorient, who can no longer be caught by the third-placed team. The defeat in Bearn also means that Paris FC are now four points clear of Lorient with two games remaining.

Metz now face the promotions playoffs before perhaps facing the 16th-placed team in Ligue 1 to return to the top flight.
