Former Tusker defender Harold Ndege is the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) office led by President Hussein Mohammed.

The CEO position fell vacant following the decision by Patrick Korir, who holds the same post at FKF Premier League outfit Nairobi City Stars, to quit. Korir had taken over the role on an interim basis following the resignation of Barry Otieno on October 8th, 2024.

Otieno stepped down from the role after years of dedicated service to Kenyan football to vie for the presidential seat during the Federation’s elections, which were held on December 7th, 2024. However, Otieno’s wish could not happen, as Mohammed won the hotly contested polls to become the new FKF President.

Ndege the new FKF CEO for the next four years

According to a statement from FKF, Ndege was handed the role following his approval by the FKF National Executive Committee (NEC) on Friday.

“The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) is pleased to announce the appointment of Harold Ndege as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), following his approval by the FKF National Executive Committee (NEC) on Friday,” read part of the statement. “Ndege replaces Patrick Korir, who resigned earlier this month after serving in an acting capacity since October 2024.”

The statement continued: “A former Tusker defender, Ndege brings a wealth of experience from both the private and public sectors, having spent over 13 years in various managerial roles. He currently serves as the Vice Chair of the East Africa Pamoja AFCON 2027 and CHAN 2025 Finance Committee.”

Speaking on his appointment, FKF President Mohammed welcomed the decision by NEC members expressing confidence in Ndege's leadership.

“Harold (Ndege) has his work cut out for him, and we are pleased to have finalised this process. His experience in both football administration and management will be crucial in steering FKF forward,” said Mohammed.

“I would also like to extend my gratitude to Patrick Korir for his professionalism and dedication during this transition period. To ensure a smooth handover, Korir will continue guiding the incoming CEO in the coming weeks.”

The statement from FKF concluded: “As CEO, Ndege will be responsible for overseeing FKF’s daily operations, with a key focus on improving governance, financial management, and operational efficiency within the federation.

“The Football Kenya Federation extends its best wishes to Ndege in his new role and remains committed to fostering a transparent, professional, and progressive football environment in Kenya.”

Ndege brings extensive managerial experience of 13 years from both private and public sectors. A Masters in Finance degree holder, Ndege has vast expertise in financial management, project management, strategic thinking and business development.

During his time with Tusker, he won two league titles and two CECAFA titles and he had a professional stint with Vasco Sports Club in India. Ndege is also one of the founding members of Kenya Footballers' Welfare Association (KEFWA), an independent union for Kenyan professional footballers, and the current General Secretary of KESPA (legends).

He is the current vice-chairman of the Finance Committee for the Pamoja 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament to be co-hosted in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania and the 2024 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament, slated for the three East Africa nations in August, 2025.

FKF boss hints at extending Azam TV contract

Meanwhile, FKF boss Mohammed has hinted at extending the broadcasting partnership with partners Azam Media. The Tanzania-based Azam have been televising selected live matches from the FKF Premier League.

“Our partnership with Azam is crucial in taking the FKF Premier League to the next level. Improving the broadcast quality and commercial appeal of the league will not only attract more fans but also create better opportunities for clubs and players,” said Mohammed.

Mohammed was speaking after he held a meeting with Azam representatives in Kenya led by Patrick Kahemele, CEO of the Content & Broadcasting Division, and Martin Abuya, General Manager of Azam Media Kenya, to discuss strategies for enhancing the league’s quality and visibility

According to Mohammed, the discussions focused on improving production standards, increasing fan engagement, and strengthening the commercial value of the league through a collaborative approach.

The Kenyan league will continue on Saturday and Sunday with a focus on the title-chasing fixture involving record champions Gor Mahia and Tusker at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Sunday.

A win for Gor Mahia will see them cut Tusker’s lead at the top of the 18-team table to two points, and they still have a game in hand. Tusker are currently sitting joint top with Kenya Police on 38 points, but the law enforcers have a better goal aggregate.

Having drawn 0-0 with Police in their last assignment, the Brewers will be aiming to bounce back with a win and reclaim the top spot, having beaten Gor Mahia 2-1 in their last meeting at the same venue.
