Bukayo Saka and William Saliba’s contract talks are not just about keeping two of Arsenal’s best players happy - they are about breaking through new financial barriers.

Their current deals run until 2027, but Arsenal already moved to make sure the issue of their future does not creep onto the agenda.

Initial discussions opened up in March, sources say, and the mood around the Emirates now is that the club are closing in on extensions that will guarantee their two crown jewels stay in north London.

Real Madrid have floated around Saliba, hinting that they would love to lure him to Spain. But sources close to the situation are convinced he is not going anywhere.

Arsenal’s hierarchy are relaxed about the speculation, believing the Frenchman wants to stay and sees the project as the perfect fit for his career peak.

Saka’s case is even more straightforward.

He was once on Manchester City’s radar before penning his last deal, but insiders describe the current talks as “very encouraging” and expect him to sign up without much drama.

The bigger talking point is what it will cost Arsenal.

Our understanding is that Saka is in line to become the club’s highest-paid player, earning in excess of £300,000 a week - and Saliba will not be far behind.

To put that into perspective, it places them in the bracket of the Premier League’s elite earners and reflects Arsenal’s recognition that they can no longer shy away from competing with the very biggest contracts in the game.

Behind the scenes, Andrea Berta’s influence is again becoming obvious.

Arsenal brought him in to sharpen the club’s decision-making around both transfers and contracts, and his summer work left a strong impression.

He oversaw difficult negotiations and helped deliver key deals that set the tone for what comes next. Now, his focus is on ensuring Saka and Saliba remain the foundation of the squad.

Sources suggest there is genuine excitement at Arsenal that Berta’s style will keep paying off.

And for supporters, the prospect of tying down Saka and Saliba long term will be almost as satisfying as signing a new superstar.
