In a landmark development ahead of the 2025/26 season, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced the launch of a transformative broadcast and commercial partnership with Adesa Productions Limited (APL) on Thursday.

During the partnership launch, a record financial support package was also announced, which will see each of the league’s 18 clubs receive GH₵1 million ahead of the opening weekend in September.

This unprecedented move signifies a bold commitment to strengthening the competitiveness, sustainability, and brand value of Ghana’s top-flight.

The funding is set to help with clubs’ preparations, cover operational costs, improve player welfare, and provide financial stability in advance of what is expected to be one of the most exciting campaigns in years.

GFA President & CAF second Vice President, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, described it as a “firm commitment” and “game-changer” that would uplift club football across the country, adding:

“This is not a grant; it is a commitment to club transformation. Through this initiative - in partnership with APL, the private sector, and with the full backing of government - we aim to make football in Ghana not just a passion but a viable economic enterprise.”

The interest from the Government of Ghana was evident with the signing and launch ceremony attended by the Chief of Staff on behalf of President John Mahama, Sports Minister Kofi Adams, and other dignitaries.

APL will handle the complete broadcast production for the 2025/26 season, ending speculation about a return of previous broadcast partners and promising a fresh, locally-focused promotion of the league.

The partnership with APL is more than just about money. Programming and content creation will support the transformation of clubs into vibrant commercial entities. Enhanced broadcast standards, innovative digital content, and more visibility for clubs are all expected to help grow each club’s fan base and market appeal.

Another major innovation is a revamped prize money structure, as financial rewards will now extend across all league positions, not just the champion and top three finishers. This move seeks to improve the league’s competitiveness by incentivising clubs to fight for every place on the table, ensuring that excitement lasts until the final whistle of the season.

The new season also comes with broadened security and matchday protocols, a renewed campaign against hooliganism, and continued upgrades to stadium facilities and officiating.

Sports Minister Kofi Adams reaffirmed the government’s focus on safety, infrastructure, and fan experience.

“We must continue to drive professionalism, security, and improved facilities for fans and players. These are all critical if we want to grow our league and build lasting brands.”

Indeed, a new era in the Ghana Premier League has been ushered in. Strategic reforms, enhanced prizes, and a visionary commercial partnership may well mark a turning point for Ghanaian domestic football, bringing added prestige to the league.
