Maghnes Akliouche continues to rise in status in European football - and Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of securing the Monaco star appear to be going in the opposite direction.

The French midfielder once again showed his quality on Friday night when he scored in Monaco’s impressive 3-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain, a performance that further underlined his growing influence.

Akliouche has enjoyed an impressive season with the Ligue 1 club and has been closely watched by Spurs throughout the campaign.

Tottenham have tracked the 24-year-old attacking midfielder extensively and were tempted to move for him in both the August and January transfer windows, but ultimately never followed through with a formal bid.

Despite that hesitation, the North London club still have him in their sights ahead of the summer transfer window as they consider ways to strengthen their attacking options.

However, Tottenham’s own campaign could complicate any potential move as they are enduring a difficult season and have been dragged into a relegation battle in the Premier League.

That uncertainty makes it harder for them to compete for a player whose reputation is growing rapidly across the continent.

Akliouche has no shortage of admirers and several Premier League clubs are monitoring his progress, including Manchester City and Arsenal, while other English sides are also believed to be keeping tabs on the Monaco playmaker.

Interest also extends well beyond England and major clubs in mainland Europe are tracking him, with Bayern Munich and Inter Milan among those who have been watching his performances.
