Former Liverpool prodigy Jordon Ibe has signed for Swedish second-tier side Umea as he looks to continue to rebuild a career that was once set for stardom.

Umea currently sit rock-bottom of the Superettan with zero wins and only five points from 16 games played, and have turned to Ibe in the hope of avoiding what looks to be an inevitable drop into the third tier.

29-year-old Ibe has been training with the team for the past few weeks but has now made his move to Sweden official.

He was a free agent after leaving Southern League Premier Division South side Hungerford Town, whom he joined in January after short spells with fellow English non-league sides Hayes & Yeading United and Ebbsfleet United.

"He is here to show himself and get new speed, if you can say so. And he knows us as a club that is very good at taking care of the person and the player, so it suits us quite well," said Umea sports manager Adam Chennoufi when speaking to Sportbladet.

London born Ibe broke through at Wycombe Wanderers in the 2011/12 season, making his professional debut when still only 15.

His eye-catching performances earned a move to Liverpool that summer, for whom he played 47 times in all competitions and scored three times across all competitions over a four-year period, interspersed with loan moves to Birmingham City and Derby County.

Ibe played four times for England at under-21 level, but never hit the heights that were expected of him at Anfield, where injuries often took their toll. He often struggled for form in four years at Bournemouth that followed, before he moved back to Derby.

While back at the East Midlands club, it was revealed that Ibe had been suffering with depression. He left after one season, making just one appearance.

After six months without a club, he joined Turkish second-tier club Adanaspor in January 2022, but left without making an appearance, and has since only made a handful of appearances in at semi-professional level in England.

Umea's next opportunity for a first win this season, and Ibe's first chance to make his debut, comes on Monday, when they are at home to Falkenberg.
