Goalkeeper

Mattijs Branderhorst (Sittard) 8.6

There was one order of the day for Branderhorst on Saturday evening as Sittard hosted Heerenveen: stop the ball from going in his net. And that is exactly what he did. It wasn't a pretty performance from the home side, who went long spells without possession, but thanks to Branderhorst's heroics, they were given the platform to steal all three points.

The Dutch keeper prevented 2.28 goals and made eight stops on his way to a player of the match display and a well-earned clean sheet. Thankfully for Branderhorst, his side got the job done up the other end of the pitch in the second half to win 2-0 and move within touching distance of the top eight.

Defenders

Dan-Axel Zagadou (Stuttgart) 9.0

It is fair to say that  Zagadou's career hasn't gone the way many expected when he burst onto the scene at Borussia Dortmund, and this season has been another challenging one with injuries. So his player of the match display for Stuttgart at the weekend (on just his second start of the season) was a timely reminder of what he is capable of.

Zagadou would have been relieved to produce such a performance after spending last season struggling to stay injury-free for Stuttgart's second team.

Despite Stuttgart conceding two goals in their 3-2 Bundesliga win against Augsburg, Zagadou ensured it was just the two with a defensive masterclass. The centre-back won 11 headers in a dominant aerial display and 20 duels overall, as well as ending the game with an 80% pass accuracy. The Frenchman was fully deserving of his 9.0 rating.

Edmond Tapsoba (Bayer Leverkusen) 9.0

Tapsoba is the first of three Leverkusen players to make the Team of the Week after the German side's 6-0 dismantling of Heidenheim on Saturday.

Tapsoba played a crucial role in the statement victory as, whilst being faultless at the back, the centre-back set up the third and fifth goals before being subbed off before the hour mark. A job very well done.

Lloris Gautier (Le Havre) 8.7

Gautier is not a goal-scoring defender. Few Le Havre supporters would have expected him to be the one to rescue his side a point, but football is always full of surprises.

Le Havre were 1-0 down at home to Nantes and looking down the barrel of defeat when Gautier powered a header into the top right corner to send the home support wild.

It was a delivery that deserved to be attacked, and Gautier did just that to dramatically rescue a point as a makeshift centre forward.

Midfielders

Jordan Holsgrove (Estoril) 9.3

Scotsman Holsgrove is enjoying life in Portugal right now, and he played a crucial role in Estoril's thrilling 4-3 win against Arouca at the weekend. Firstly, just before half-time, Holsgrove whipped in a threatening corner which found Kevin Boma unmarked, and the centre-back did the rest to level the game at 2-2.

Holsgrove would then put the hosts ahead just after the break with a brilliant individual goal. The central midfielder played a quick one-two before gliding past the defender inside the box and curling an effort past the keeper's near post and into the bottom corner.

Ibrahim Maza (Bayer Leverkusen) 9.1

After a lot of excitement surrounding his summer move to Leverkusen, it is fair to say Maza has had a settling-in period at his new club.

Before Leverkusen's 6-0 victory at the weekend, Maza's only goal for Leverkusen had come in the DFB Pokal, but his brilliant brace against Heidenheim brought an end to that in style.

The hosts were already 4-0 up and out of sight when Mezza slid in to score from close range. If his first goal was more about the quality of the pass into him, his second was all about Mezza. After a swift Leverkusen attack, Mezza was found with a darting run in behind, and he did the rest, firing a bullet effort into the top corner.

Ernest Poku (Bayer Leverkusen) 9.6

The final Leverkusen player to make this team is another exciting young player. Poku has made a more seamless transition to German football since his summer move from the Netherlands, so it came as little surprise to see him play a starring role in Leverkusen's big win.

After using his pace to find space inside the box, Poku slipped in Patrik Schick for the opening goal of the game. Poku's day got even better when he directed a volley over the Heidenheim keeper inside the box after a teasing cross by his fellow team of the week star, Tapsoba.

Salem Al Dawsari (Al Hilal) 9.6

At 34, Dawsari remains a vital part of Al Hilal's side, and he reminded everyone that he still has a lot to give this season with a timely brace against Al Najma to help his side to an impressive 4-2 win away from home

The tricky left winger scored Al Hilal's first goal of the game, and it came at just seven minutes after Al Najma had taken a shock lead. Dawsari turned creator as Al Hilal came from behind again to make it 2-2 in the 71st minute, leaving time for a winner.

Ruben Neves would be the man who would score the decisive winning goal, but Dawsari made sure of the victory when he scored his second of the game late on to cap a fantastic individual display.

Jeremy Doku (Manchester City) 9.3

Doku's display against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon was one of those special displays that will be talked about for years to come. It was a one-man show at times as the Belgian winger terrorised poor Connor Bradley with his blistering pace and box of tricks.

Despite not being involved in either of City's first two goals, Doku did brilliantly to win a penalty in the first half that Erling Haaland subsequently failed to score from, and he was a menace throughout.

So when he cut inside and curled a stunning strike into the top right-hand corner in the second half to complete the perfect performance, nobody could argue with Gary Neville's decision to award Doku player of the match with almost 30 minutes still left to play.

Doku was in a league of his own as he delivered a glimpse into the winger he could become if he consistently produces an end product, and that is one of a world-beater.

Forwards:

Lionel Messi (Inter Miami) 10

Messi is making the MLS look easy right now. The Argentine opened the scoring for Miami against Nashville on Friday night with a trademark drop of the shoulder before firing an effort into the opposite corner to the one everyone expected. Genius.

His second goal was the type of goal he has scored countless times in his career, just being in the right place at the right time to tap home. A defence-splitting pass in the second half would result in an assist to his name to complete the perfect 10.

Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid) 9.7

After a stuttering start to the season, Atletico Madrid have started to find their groove in LaLiga. However, their talisman, Griezmann, had been struggling to score before the weekend. Those concerns will be long forgotten now as Griezmann scored a clinical brace to help Atletico to a dominant 3-1 win at home to Levante to continue their march up the table.

Both of his goals on Saturday evening were simple finishes, but they were the kind of goals he hasn't been scoring this season.
