Suzan Lamens, the only Dutch player in the WTA 1000 Masters tournament in Beijing, China, was eliminated early after a first-round defeat to lucky loser Emiliana Arango: 6-3, 6-3.

The 24-year-old Arango lost in the final round of the qualifying tournament to Ella Seidel, but got into the tournament as a lucky loser due to wild card Yafan Wang pulling out of the tournament.

Wang's retirement secured a match for Colombian Arango against Suzan Lamens, the Dutch 57th-ranked player.

Given a golden opportunity, Arango quickly made the most of it with a break in her opponent's first service game. Lamens raced to a 40-0 lead in the first game and couldn't reel in the game, but did snag one from Arango in the third game.

An up-and-down set for both players saw Lamens get broken twice again, paying the price for allowing Arango to get to break points eight times in the opening set, which Arango won 6-3. Arango showed great intent in the return game, notching 50% in both first and second service points won.

With the chance to grab a win that was impossible just hours before the match, Arango dominated the early stages of the second set by going up 3-0 and breaking Lamens twice. The Dutchwoman fought back, however, getting to 3-2 and fending off two break points from Arango.

The pressure from the Colombian ultimately proved too much for Lamens, who conceded a sixth break in the final game of the second set.

Arango made the absolute most of her unlikely tournament seed, finishing off Lamens in 90 minutes with a 6-3, 6-3 win. Up next for Arango is a meeting with home hero Qinwen Zheng.
