"Unfortunately, my back reacted badly to my matches in Miami and I have tried to be ready to play until the last minute. Things are progressing, but unfortunately I am not in form for tough international matches already on Friday."
"There were a few of us who experienced the same problems last week, and WTA players must recognize that we need to plan smarter to protect our health and prioritize in the calendar to minimize the risk", says Clara Tauson in a press release from the Danish Tennis Association.
Denmark will face Slovakia on Friday 11 April 11 and the United States the following day and Denmark's current best female tennis player would have loved to have been part of the team.
"It has of course been an incredibly difficult decision for me to make, not to be part of the Billie Jean King Cup team in Slovakia. I love playing for the national team and for Denmark, where I have played 13 international matches in the last two years in addition to the Olympics. I am very proud of what we have achieved as a team, and I look forward to the next time I can be part of it", says Tauson.
Caroline Wozniacki, who announced late Sunday night that she is expecting a third child, will aso not be part of the squad.
The rest of the Danish national team, consisting of Johanne Svendsen, Rebecca Munk Mortensen, Laura Brunkel and Emilie Francati, traveled to Bratislava on Monday.
