After 12 days of action at the Italian Open, there are just two women remaining, with world number three Coco Gauff and home favourite Jasmine Paolini set to battle it out for the Masters 1000 crown.

20:45 CET - That is where we leave you for the night, but be sure to come back tomorrow for another huge Masters 1000 final as world number three Carlos Alcaraz takes on world number one Jannik Sinner in the latest encounter between the emerging rivals.

Follow the final here tomorrow from 17:30 CET.

18:49 CET - Jasmine Paolini is the champion on home soil, with the Italian sixth seed battling through a competitive opening set to impressively beat Coco Gauff 6-4, 6-2 and secure a second WTA 1000 title.

Paolini becomes the first Italian woman to win the Rome Masters since 1985, and as a result of her victory, will move up to fourth in the WTA rankings ahead of the French Open.

17:10 CET - Coco Gauff and Jasmine Paolini have walked out onto court in Rome, with the final set to start in just a few minutes!

16:00 CET - After a stellar 2024, in which she reached two Grand Slam finals, Jasmine Paolini has yet to reach those same lofty heights this season. However, on home soil with the Rome crowd behind her, the Italian has battled to the final, despite not always playing her best tennis.

Paolini was perhaps a touch fortunate to defeat Diana Shnaider in the quarter-finals after her Russian opponent capitulated, and Peyton Stearns should have won the first set in their semi-final meeting.

But Paolini, using the energy of the supporters, dug deep and found ways to fight back, and she now has a chance to win her second WTA 1000 title. A victory for her today would also see her move up to number four in the world rankings, and Iga Swiatek drop down to number five!

14:25 CET - Having reached the Madrid final just a couple of weeks ago, Coco Gauff has continued her impressive clay-court form in Rome, and the American will be desperate to go one step further today and capture her third Masters 1000 crown.

Seeded fourth in the Italian capital, Gauff has seen off the likes of Emma Raducanu, Mirra Andreeva and Qinwen Zheng (in the longest main-draw match of the year) en route to the showpiece event.

With Roland Garros just over a week away, the 21-year-old will be keen to continue her momentum and secure a 10th career title on the WTA Tour.
