The Texas Rangers hired Skip Schumaker as their new manager on Friday.
Schumaker will replace former manager Bruce Bochy, who led the Rangers to a World Series title in 2023.
The 45-year-old Schumaker was the 2023 National League Manager of the Year after leading the Miami Marlins to a postseason spot.
He spent this past season as a special assistant on a Rangers team that missed the playoffs with an 81-81 record.
As a player, Schumaker spent his first eight of 11 years as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals, where he won the 2011 World Series. He would spend a season with the Los Angeles Dodgers before finishing his player career with two seasons as a member of the Cincinnati Reds.
Schumaker finished his playing career hitting .276 with a .701 OPS, 28 home runs, 284 RBI, 26 stolen bases, and 905 hits across 1,149 games.
