We are a week into 2025 and European football is continuing at a rapid pace. So who were last weekend's Winners and Losers according to Flashscore?

Winner: Israel Garcia

On Saturday, the northern Spanish town of Barbastro, home to roughly 18,000 residents, was dressed up for the holidays. In addition, the famous Barcelona were there for a Spanish Cup match!

It was an unforgettable match for the team from the fourth league, who knocked out Espanyol on their way to being one of the best 32 teams in the country. It was also a big day for one of their midfielders.

After the game, Israel Garcia invited his girlfriend onto the pitch under the stands, posing with her for a moment as if he were taking a photo. But then he rolled up the right sleeve and a carefully concealed box appeared in his palm.

He knelt down, removed the ring from it, and proposed in front of a packed stadium. She said yes, and the Barbastro player was able to go home a champion even after a 4-0 loss.

Loser: Illan Meslier

Leeds' French goalkeeper is having a tough time in the English Championship, and it got even worse against Hull. In fact, it's entirely fair to say that had he not been in goal for the home side's second goal, his team would have fared much better.

Meslier made a shocking error with his side leading 3-1 to Leeds, as Hull managed to reduce the deficit with 10 minutes to go.

It wasn't his only mistake too, as he had already run pointlessly into no man's land for Hull's first goal. Leeds would eventually be pegged back to a 3-3 draw and fans of the league leaders were furious. Meslier took it from almost all sides, with only the German coach Daniel Farke sticking up for him.

Winner: Oliveirense

A completely unique situation occurred in the Portuguese league match between Oliveirense and Felgueiras. A torrential downpour had soaked and muddied the pitch so that the white lines representing the pitch itself were hard to see.

However, the organisers showcased their ingenuity and improvisation... with milk!

Incredibly, using milk in place of the lines worked! Whole milk is rich in fat and lactose and both are insoluble in water. This trick was supposedly learned in England, where these problems and this solution are quite common. The match started 12 minutes late and to the sadness of the home fans, they lost 3-0.

Loser: Vinicius Junior

Honestly, If he had the choice, Vinicius would prefer not to play at Valencia. Vinicius has already played 287 games for Real Madrid and seen two red cards. Both at the Mestalla stadium...

Last year he received racist insults before being sent off in the 97th minute for a clash with an opposition player. Now on the weekend, he hit the back of Dimitrievski's head with his hand in the 79th minute and the referee gave him his marching orders.

The Brazilian apologised afterwards, saying he had failed to keep his cool in a tense moment. The penalty for assault without the ball in Spain is between four and 12 games, yet Real Madrid hope it'll be just a two-match suspension.

Winner: Sergio Conceicao

The new Portuguese coach of AC Milan boasts a magnificent record - two games, two wins, and one trophy, with his side winning the Italian Super Cup in Riyadh on Monday evening. And he can be particularly pleased with how they did it.

Going behind in the semi-final against Juventus and the final against Inter, each time they turned the score around in the final minutes. They were even 2-0 down to their city rivals and it was looking like Lautaro Martínez and co. would win the cup for the fourth time in a row.

But Conceicao was celebrating just one week after taking the hot seat. It is already clear that his arrival could help his compatriot Rafael Leao. The talented winger has often been criticised for his lacklustre performances and carefree approach.

However, he came on for the final 40 minutes of the game and he made his mark. He was involved in all three of his team's goals and helped Milan to the eighth Super Cup in their history. Record holders Juventus have just one more.

Loser: Barcelona

Dani Olmo was one of the key figures in Spain's EURO triumph last year. That's why Barcelona coveted him in the summer and brought him over from Leipzig. Olmo, however, hasn't played much for the club.

In the autumn, he managed only 15 games in all competitions due to injury, and in many of those appearances, he made short cameos. And it looks like he probably won't be able to add any more.

In fact, the club was only allowed to use him until December 31st and failed to renew his registration due to LaLiga's budget rules. As a result, Olmo probably won't be able to kick on at Barca in the spring and instead may go elsewhere according to a clause in his contract.

The fans are understandably furious and are calling for the head of club president Joan Laporta. They accuse him of negligence and want to call a vote of no confidence in him.
